Everson Tesla
has long supported the power generation industry, always utilizing
innovative approaches to solve practical problems. Proven capabilities
in design, material selection, prototype modeling, coil winding and
insulation systems have placed Everson Tesla among the cutting edge suppliers
for coils used in rotating field applications.

Transitioning
from large DC stationary field coils and rotating fields for synchronous
motors to highly reliable and efficient rotor coils for today's
turbo generators exemplifies the manufacturing diversity that Everson Tesla
has achieved over the past 75 years. A dedicated, multiple-shift
facility has been established to meet the growing industry demand
for these air-cooled and gas-cooled two and four pole rotor coil
sets.
Everson Tesla currently supplies rotor coils, either insulated or not,
in several configurations:
- C-PIECE
- CONTINUOUS
WOUND
- SQUARE CORNER

C-PIECE
ROTOR COILS are the modern hybrid configuration utilizing the best
attributes of each of the above for extreme versatility in coil
design while maintaining rapid rotor winding. A single turn is fabricated
from two long extruded copper bars that form the slot section and
half of each end turn, requiring only
a single joint at each end turn. The copper can be punched and machined
as in Square Corner coils and the turns are edge-bent in the hardened
state to minimize corner distortion. The end turns are typically
annealed after shaping to facilitate pre-forming to the radius of
the rotor shaft. Butt, lap, butt with filler, scarf and overlap
joints are all available to satisfy any customers requirements.

CONTINUOUS
WOUND ROTOR COILS are manufactured from strap copper conductor supplied
on reels in very long lengths that eliminate the need for any joints.
The coils are wound with soft copper and are not suitable for ventilated
slot rotors.

SQUARE CORNER
ROTOR COILS are manufactured using different lengths of drawn copper
bars. The longer bars used in the slot section can be punched or
machined for ventilation and are often supplied in the hardened
state for strength. The short bars used for the end turns can be
pre-rolled to shape or supplied
in the soft state to facilitate forming the radii while winding.
Additional machining of any of the pieces for cooling channels,
chimneys or weight reduction grooves can be provided. Several joint
configurations, including 45 degree or 90 degree butt joints, lap
joints or lap/butt joints with filler pieces are available. These
coils can be provided as individual pieces or can be welded or brazed
into continuous or partial turn assemblies.
